Steve Wolf is a Hollywood movie stuntman and special effects expert. During his 20 years in the business, Steve has been shot, set on fire, tossed from buildings, and thrown off mountains. In addition, he's worked on movies with Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, and dozens of other stars, and has also engineered effects for TV's America's Most Wanted, Law and Order, for David Letterman, and for Whitney Houston.
Much of his work looks dangerous, but Wolf loves using such action to explain how he employs the basics of physics and other areas of science to make these stunts and special effects safe as they are thrilling and realistic.
Wolf is president of Special FX International, and founder of Science in the Movies Inc., an organization that teaches physics and chemistry through stunt demonstrations. He also operates the wildly popular Stunt Ranch in Austin, TX where for an entire day kids and other participants get to act out movie stunts a la Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sylvester Stallone, Chuck Norris and other action heroes by jumping from buildings (using professional high fall airbags), running from fireballs and performing other safety-coordinated action scenes.
Wolf, who currently lives with his wife and three children in Austin, Texas, grew up in Geneva, Switzerland, (where he took up mountain climbing at age 6 and became fluent in French) and in New York City, where he learned the meaning of "street smart." He studied Communications at Tulane University, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Writing and Literature with an emphasis on Shakespeare from Columbia University in New York City. He's also a graduate of Meisner Training and the Actors Movement Studio.
A man of diverse interests and expertise, he readily admits that he's never been able to keep his hobbies from becoming his businesses. In addition to his professional endeavors described above, here is just a partial list of some of his other qualifications and jobs that he's held in his fascinating career: emergency medical technician (EMT), scuba instructor, firearms instructor, private investigator, pyrotechnician, film director, TV producer, actor, author and pre-school teacher. In addition, as an entrepreneur, he's owned such businesses as an ad agency, PR firm, ambulance company, trial consulting company, pre-school for dyslexic children, and film production company.
The mark that he's left on Hollywood as a stunt and special effects coordinator is equally diverse and impressive. His feature film work in this capacity also includes: The Firm, Three Men and a Baby, Do the Right Thing, The Last Boy Scout, The Client, The Jungle Book, and Cast Away. He also did the special effects for James Cameron's Expedition Bismarck, and John Singleton's Hustle & Flow.
Steve's TV credits include work on All My Children, Law & Order, America's Most Wanted, Rescue 911, The David Letterman Show, and Whitney Houston's music videos.
