Positioning Tower Cranes During Construction on the National Mall

How do builders ensure large cranes don’t cause damage to the buildings around them? In this Spark101 case challenge, students help the team from Clark Construction determine the crane placement on a very important job site: the National Mall in Washington, DC. To solve this challenge, students need to apply both math skills and engineering thinking to ensure the job site of the National Museum of African American History & Culture remains safe for workers and surrounding monuments.
